Lleweni Lojë Farm: Birdlife

birdlifeThis is an ideal destination for both the beginner and the experienced Birder. The abundance of birds will always make a short trip to the Limpopo region well worthwhile.

The area boasts 35 Southern African endemics and 48 Southern African near endemics. Over 600 bird species have been recorded in the province of which 420 are resident here. The area offers pleasant and easy bird watching, but if you are chasing species see the Regional Specials and our ‘Big 10’ hit list for each sub-route.

The GLBR grew out of the original ‘Soutpansberg-Limpopo Birding Route’. It now consists of four sub-routes: the ‘Soutpansberg-Limpopo Birding Route (SLBR) and the Capricorn-Letaba Birding Route (CLBR) the Waterberg-Nylsvley Birding Route (WNBR) and the Kruger to Canyons Birding Route (K2C). The GLBR is managed by a executive committee made up of representatives from each route and run by a project manager in partnership with Birdlife South Africa.

The South African Bushveld is renowned for its natural beauty and ecological diversity. As soon as you start mentioning the bushveld and the more specific the Waterberg you start seeing pictures of romantic sunsets, endless savannah landscapes, majestic mountains, winding rivers and the abundance of kafshë të egra.

Once considered to be South Africa’s wild frontier; the Waterberg is easily accessible to the local and overseas nature enthusiasts and travelers. The region boasts many eco-tourist attractions such as holiday resorts, nature reserves, game lodges, dedicated birding routes and then the grandiose Royal Victoria Lifestyle Estate.

Over the last ten years Lleweni has become one of the Birdlife South Africa’s favorite destinations to view birdlife. In so much that since 2002 they have been doing annual recordings of different species that are present on the Lleweni Lojë Farm. Other birdlife institutions included in this recording is Avian Demography Unit and the National Biodiversity Institute. The team has observed a total of 201 species of bird life over a four hour period.
